They’ve headed all the way to the famous Britain’s Got Talent stage and now they’ll be storming in to Stratford Circus to perform an exciting new show.

Fabulous 20-piece jazz orchestra The London Gay Big Band will be joined by award-winning drag diva sensation La Voix and star vocalist Gary Amers on stage.

This will be the first time the orchestra will be performing in Stratford as a whole group, having previously performed at the Olympic Park in 2012.

For trumpet player Lorraine Martin it’s another chance to return to her roots with the musician, originally from Forest Gate, promising the audience a “great night out”.

She said: “We have a small band, which performed a gig in the Olympic Park in 2012, but this is the first time that the full band – all 20 of us - will have played in Stratford.

“Stratford Circus Arts Centre is a fabulous venue, we have a terrific line-up of performers and this is our biggest, most exciting show to date, so I’m really looking forward to it.

“Watch out, Newham – you’re in for a great night out.”

Managed by trombonist and marketing whizz Stefan Doering and led by trombonist Peter Jay, the London Gay Big Band have been belting out their music since 2011.

After reaching the semi-finals on Britain’s Got Talent in 2014, La Voix and the London Gay Big Band have played cities across Europe and the UK. This included a trip to Sweden where the band played at Herräng Dance Camp, the world’s largest swing dance festival with dancers from dozens of countries attending.

Lorraine added: “We’ve been involved in so many super things since we started in 2011 and Britain’s Got Talent was obviously a major highlight like no other.

“We’d played for large crowds before – including performing on the main stage at Trafalgar Square for [Gay] Pride in front of thousands of people – but honestly, nothing prepares you for that whole live television experience. I still can’t quite believe that we were in the homes of nine million people.”

The band also has exciting plans lined up for the next year, including a slot at the London Swing festival and a performance in Barcelona in June, ending with London Gay Men’s Chorus.

She said: “We’ve found that what we do seems to have such a wide appeal – a reach way beyond jazz fans and LGBT audiences. There has been such a strong revival of this repertoire, through popular artists, a massive swing dance movement and generally more awareness, so we just plan to keep on going out there, celebrating and sharing this wonderful music.”

They will perform at Stratford Circus from 8pm on Friday April 10 and Saturday April 11. Tickets start from £20. Visit stratford-circus.com or call 0844 357 2625.
