A life-size, interactive dragon will be in attendance at St George’s Day celebrations in the capital this weekend.

Trafalgar Square is to come alive tomorrow with a Feast of St George serving culinary delights from across England.

A banqueting table, seating 250 people and decorated with patriotic red and white bunting, will be laid beside an English food market - and renowned London chefs will be on site offering cookery demonstrations.

London Mayor Mr Johnson said the day would be “a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the very best of what England has to offer, from music, to theatre, to film”.

He added: “And this year we’re focusing on food. London offers a one stop shop, a smörgåsbord of mouth-watering food from around the world, but our Feast of St George is a chance to savour some of the tasty delights that originate closer to home, accompanied by great entertainment.

“From pies and mash to scotch eggs and hog roasts, there’s something for all tastes, plus the chance to pick up some cooking tips from fine chefs. Happy St George’s Day!”

City Hall said youngsters would be kept entertained with traditional English games such as croquet - and jugglers and jesters will mill around the square creating mischief.

St George’s Day, which celebrates England’s patron saint, is officially next Tuesday (April 23).
