Under-14 girls upset odds for fine victory
London Youngbloods under-14 girls upset the odds to beat Haringey Angels in their latest league outing.
It was a hectic weekend for the Lion Cubs as they played Invictus in Southampton, before returning to the capital to take on their local rivals.
Haringey went into the match sitting in third place, while Youngbloods lay in eighth but had 12 players on their bench.
Youngbloods opened the scoring with a swift drive to the basket from Tinu Fakunle, with Jada Sealy and Leia Edwards quickly joining her on the scoresheet as they built a 16-8 lead.
Angels came out fighting in the second quarter, but Fakunle, Fatima Jenneh and Edwards produced a run of scoring that kept their side on top, leading 34-18 at half time.
Haringey hit back in the third quarter, though, as they poured on the pressure to outscore their rivals 20-6 to close the gap to just two points and set up a tense finale.
The lead changed hands three times at the start of the last period, before Youngbloods wrestled back control through four quick points from Anais Campbell.
And once Youngbloods had their noses in front they were in no mood to let slip and went on to claim a fantastic 57-50 victory.
