16-year-old beats all-comers in Wolverhampton

St Bonaventure’s Sixth Form student Abdullah Bhaijee has certainly had plenty to celebrate in recent weeks, adding European gold to a British silver.

Last weekend, the 16-year-old won the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Junior European Championships in Wolverhampton just a week after coming second at the British Wrestling Championships in Bolton.

The Forest Gate resident is currently studying for four A Levels, but it is his strength and determination on the mat that has taken centre stage this month.

But it seems the year 12 student, who trains at Legion Wrestling in Leyton, is now turning his attentions back to his studies after his success.

“It felt brilliant to receive Gold but I won’t be taking part in any more competitions in the near future as I now need to concentrate on my A Level studies as I want to reach my dream of going to university and becoming a psychiatrist,” he said.
