Phoenix Bowls Club star George Warren saw his excellent run in the county singles championship come to an end in a drama-drenched Area semi-final on Monday night.

Warren, who plays in North Woolwich, but lives in East Ham, was over at Wanstead Central’s Nutter Lane once again for a clash against the home club’s Colin Jones, who had beaten Plashet Park’s Moosa Patel in the previous round.

Warren had scored a fine win over Dave Baxter the previous week, winning 21-17 in a marathon match at Nutter Lane and this game was no different.

But it was Jones who held his nerve this time to win 21-20 and book his place in the Area Final where he will play Jerry Quy of Aldersbrook, who overcame Wanstead Central bowler Paul Whellams 21-10 in their semi-final.

It was still another good run from Warren, who reached the last eight last season.
