Newham put local rivals Bow Green to the sword to claim a 302-run win in their Essex County League Premier Division derby at Flanders FIeld.

Captain Sajjad Mirza chose to bat first and saw Kashif Iqbal (142) score his maiden century for the club to lay the foundations for a club record 45-over total of 422-8.

Adnan Ashraf (70) and Amit Midha (50) scored quickfire half-centuries, with Mujakkir Hussain (35 not out) and Adnan Khan (44) getting in on the act late on.

Green’s Rayon Younge started quickly in reply, but fell for 32 to Khan (2-32), who produced a hostile spell.

Spin then played a major role as Kashif (2-27) and Zahid struck, before Arjun Singh Rana (3-6) helped dismiss the visitors for just 120 and captain Mirza said: “This was an efficient and ruthless display. We need to play every game with this intensity and commitment. Special mention for Kashif and Arjun but there were great performances throughout.”

The seconds put their Redbridge rivals into bat at Clayhall Park and saw captain Nishant Mittal and Atesaam Syed claim a wicket apiece early on.

Zaheer Khan then produced a wonderful spell of bowling, nabbing 2-6 in five overs as the Redbridge middle order struggled against a strong bowling attack.

After the drinks break, Qamar Qureshi (5-29) continued the onslaught as Redbridge were bowled out for 130.

Newham lost their openers early but Atesaam Syed (33) and Rohan Pawar (27) saw them reach 79-4, before they collapsed to 99-8 through a mixture of nervous batting, good bowling and good fielding.

Nishant and Junaid Ilyas steadied the ship and took the total to 122, but with only nine runs needed to win, the skipper was bowled and the final wicket followed soon after as Newham finished an agonising five runs short of their target.

The thirds reduced Roding Valley to 44-3, before Nasir Nazir (137) went on the attack and lifted his side’s total to 346 with help from Misbah Ul Hasan (57).

Newham made a slow start in reply and suffered a top-order collapse as Khanzadah Waziri claimed five wickets with good pace and control on a flat deck.

Some lower-order resilience from Tabish Mahmood (21 not out) and Nafi Ahmad (20) lifted Newham to 167 in a losing cause.
