Trio picked for pre-cadet squad

Three Stratford Judo Club youngsters have been picked for the pre-cadet England squad.

Lena James, 14, came through three hard fights in the over-63kg category at the Northern Ireland Open to win a silver medal and earn enough Ippon League points for selection.

And coach Paul Willis said: “I was very happy with the result. It bodes well for the London Open at the University of East London at the end of May.”

Omar Lecointe and Mohammed Boudemagh, 13, also gained enough points from the Western Area Open to meet the criteria for England selection and the trio will train with other members and enter ranking competitions.

Willis added: “I am really happy for the two of them. They have worked very hard for their co-option into the England pre-cadet squad.”
