St Helen’s came out on top at the latest Langdon Academy School Sport Partnership event where 11 teams took part in a Year 5 and 6 competition.
They smashed Sandringham in the final, whilst beaten semi-finalists St Edward’s and Nelson played out a six-goal thriller to decide who would finish third and it was St Edward’s that triumphed 4-2.
St Helen’s had finished top of Group One after achieving three victories out of three, with Nelson second after one success, one draw and one loss from their fixtures.
Lathom also qualified from that group, coming third with one win and two defeats, and joining them in the last eight from Group Two were Sandringham, St Edward’s and St James.
Sandringham, like St Helen’s, had a 100 per cent record, whilst runners-up St Edward’s won two of their three matches.
St James, like Lathom, lost twice, but crucial picked up a victory against Central Park to reach the quarters.
Only three sides were in Group Three and Ellen Wilkinson won both their matches to top the group, whilst St Joachim’s beat Elmhurst to secure the other quarter-final spot.
St Helen’s eased into the last four with a 2-0 win against St James, whilst Sandringham needed a sudden death shoot-out to progress past Lathom after their match finished 5-5.
St Edward’s and Nelson were the other two teams to reach the last four – St Edward’s beating Ellen Wilkinson 2-0 and Nelson edging St Joachim’s 5-3.
Nelson were no match for Sandringham in the semi-final’s and exited after a 4-2 defeat, whilst St Helen’s won 4-1 against St Edward’s.
But it was St Helen’s day as they triumphed 7-0 over Sandringham in the final, whilst St Edward’s picked up third after beating Nelson 4-2.
All in all another successful Langdon event.
