Lots of medals at Meopham Open

Newham’s Shoujin Karate Kai finished the 2016 competition season in style at the Meopham Open in Kent.

The team of 16 concluded the year by bringing home a combined total of six gold, five silver and eight bronze medals in the kata and kumite disciplines.

Among the gold medalists were Danielius Pavilonis, who recently returned from a broken wrist, and Jorunas Gorelcenka, taking gold in all three categories, along with his brother Mantas Gorelcenka and cousin Martyna Griskeviciute.

Head coach Tony Solley said: “This has been a solid performance year from our team with some emerging talent at all levels. We are looking forward to 2017 and continuing to strive to be the best we can be.”
