Year three and four pupils from Newham’s St Francis Primary School came out on top in the key stage two mixed handball competition staged by the Langdon Academy Sport Partnership yesterday.

They began their schedule with a resounding 12-2 win over Langdon, before a 2-2 draw with Aldersbrook, and edged past St Luke’s 3-2, before a 3-3 draw with Cleveland.

That clinched top spot in group one for St Francis, who went on to beat Sandringham (7-2) in the quarter-finals and Cleveland (5-4) in a rematch in the semi-finals.

And a 6-2 win over St Luke’s in the final saw them clinch the silverware, as Aldersbrook beat Cleveland 4-3 in the third-place play-off.
