Rokeby School’s year 10 Btec Sports students successfully staged a futsal tournament for local primary schools recently.

As a requirement of their course the students each had to fulfil a number of roles, including coach, referee, assistant referee, time-keeper, recorder and competition administrator.

The competition was for pupils in year three and four and included teams from eight borough schools, including Kaizen, Keir Hardie, Ravenscroft, Rosetta, Salisbury, Scott Wilkie, Sir John Heron and Tollgate.

And after a quick warm-up the action began with games being played in a round-robin system where all teams get to play each other.

With plenty of goals being fired in on both pitches, it was a closely fought tournament that caused much excitement among spectators on the sidelines.

And when all the results were collated, Rosetta were crowned as winners, with Scott Wilkie coming second and Salisbury in third place.

At the end of the competition the year 10 students congratulated all of the teams for their sportsmanship and good play and presented the cup and medals to the winners.
