Three tries in the first ten minutes put East London on the road to their first win of the season with a 36-29 win over Campion in London Three Essex.

It was the dominance of the home forwards that was the overall difference between the sides and they forged the first score on five minutes.

They set up the play for Will Brown to feed Jack Roach on the right wing and he scored his second try of the season, though Ryan Billinghurst missed the conversion.

The lead was extended two minutes later when a break by Roach ended with Alex Mylchreest scoring under the posts for a converted try.

On ten minutes, Campion conceded a penalty at the breakdown and the home side elected to take a scrum.

Dan Bracken picked up from the back and fed Mylchreest on the blind side and he scored his second try which Billinghurst converted for a 19-0 lead.

More East London chances went begging before the visitors got a foothold in the game with wo tries on 17 and 29 minutes, only the first of which was converted, narrowing the gap.

A penalty on 34 minutes brought Campion to within four points,

Nick Parrott scored in the 37th minute after good work from the pack set up the blindside flanker, but Billinghurst’s conversion attempt hit the upright.

With Bracken on the sidelines for a yellow card offence, Campion took advantage just before half-time with a converted try to trail by two points.

Bracken almost made amends on 52 minutes, but he lost the ball over the try line.

Three minutes later, the forwards set up full back Max Stanyard to score his debut try for the club, which Billinghurst converted off the post.

A converted try from Campion on 65 minutes brought it back to two points, but they then had a player yellow carded for kicking the ball away.

On 70 minutes East London made the game safe when a break from inside centre Mo Akbar resulted in Will Brown scoring. The conversion was missed.

After the game, East London head coach Eddie Gooby said: “It’s good to get that first victory under our belts. We were so much better than last week. We were good in all areas and are looking forward to visiting Barking next Saturday.”
