Cottons Park outfit lost 35-33 at home to leaders Epping Upper Clapton last weekend

Campion will look to rebound from two consecutive defeats when they visit Kings Cross Steelers in London Three Essex on Saturday.

The Cottons Park started the season with a win over London Borough of Havering rivals Old Cooperians, but have since lost to East London and Epping Upper Clapton.

Despite the results, Campion have been able to take bonus points in defeat which Pat Hallahan takes as a positive.

The head coach knows his side are not too far away from securing another triumph, but is aware of the threat Steelers will pose this weekend.

“From what I know of Kings Cross, they will be a tough outfit who possess a big front five,” he said.

“We’re young and fast so we have to play to our strengths and we have to play smart rugby too.

“We’re not being beaten by big margins, so if we can cut out the silly mistakes and improve our discipline we can be a match for anyone.

“We’ve been competitive in every game we’ve played this season and we’re taking bonus points in defeat.

“That’s something we didn’t do enough last season and could make all the difference this year.”

At home to leaders Epping last weekend, Campion suffered a narrow 35-33 defeat after leading for much of the game.

The Cottons Park club had three men sent off and Hallahan said he was disappointed with some of the decisions made by the officials.

The Campion head coach, though, also feels there were certain aspects his side can improve upon ahead visiting Kings Cross on Saturday.

“We know we have to improve our discipline because we’ve scored the third-most points in the league so far this season, but are conceding lots of points too,” he said.

“In every game so far this season, we’ve had periods where we’ve had to play with 14 men at most because someone has been in the sin bin.

“That’s something that, as a young team, we have to learn going forward and also learn how to play the referee better.”
