Ascension Eagle Cheerleaders (AEC) were one of three lucky youth sports groups to enjoy a VIP night at the O2 Arena recently, so they could watch the Visa International Gymnastics, part of the ‘London Prepares’ series.

The group from Newham, plus Tower Hamlets’ Youth Sport Foundation and Thamesmead School of Dance, Greenwich, were hosted by London City Airport’s Community Relations Team, and were shown performances by some of the top gymnasts from around the world, many of whom will be taking part in the upcoming 2012 Olympics.

David Mann, Chair of AEC, said: ‘‘The Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders are representing Britain at this year’s World Championships and it was therefore inspiring for them to see other elite world athletes in action. We are very grateful to London City Airport for giving them this opportunity that most would not otherwise have had.”

London City Airport has worked alongside the three groups for a number of years as part of its Health and Wellbeing programme, aimed at promoting healthy living in the local area amongst the young and old alike.

This opportunity gave the youngsters a chance to see Olympic athletes in action raising their aspirations in competitive sports such as gymnastics.
