Newham Swords set a new national club record when seven of its fencers won medals in five different categories at the British Youth Championships held in Sheffield.

In the under-12 age group, Emeliya Lukaite took bronze in the girls’ category while Benjamin Urzdal came 10th in the boys’ equivalent.

England International, James Page, took silver in the boys’ under-14s as team-mates, Rachel Shaw and fellow England international Alice Campbell took silver and seventh place respectively in the girls.

In the under-16 age-group, Great Britain international Kamal Minott and England international Cameron Nicholas gained a silver and bronze respectively in the boys’ category.

Also in the same age group, GB internationals Cieran Archer, Alan Lozovik and Katrina Feklistova came seventh, 10th and sixth.

Newham Swords’ final medals of the weekend came from the under-18 boys when GB International Rajan Rai took the silver and current GB under-17 number one Jai Birch took the bronze.

“What a great set of performances from our talented young fencers who have trained hard for this event”, said head coach Pierre Harper.

“This is the perfect warm-up for the London Youth Games and the English Youth Championships, both taking place next month”, added club manager Linda Strachan.
