Borough squad impress at para athletics
Newham athletes had a day to remember at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games ParaGames Athletics at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, winning female gold and male silver.
Newham’s female team won an impressive nine gold medals, including in the VI 100m and 200m and the javelin and SLD standing long jump.
The male team won gold medals in the VI long jump and the 100m.
Co-team manager Lisa Brivati said: “It was an amazing day for all who were part of the Newham team. Everyone tried their hardest to achieve the results they got on the day. I’m very, very proud of all who were part of the team.
“Coral (Nourrice, team coach) has put an amazing amount of time into the team to bring them together. The students came from a few different schools (Lister, Eastlea, New Vic, St Angela’s, Rokeby and Langdon) and to bring them together is an awesome effort.
“We wanted to give the opportunity for as many young people to take part as possible. Many of the young people take part in clubs and we have some talented athletes within the squad.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the young people to come together and compete as a squad. Opportunities like this are amazing and very inspirational and aspirational to the young people.”
