District squad defend cup titles

Newham’s district footballers are celebrating a superb cup double after two convincing final displays.

The borough boys thrashed Waltham Forest 8-2 to defend their Essex Cup title, before beating Redbridge 7-1 to also retain the London Cup a few days later.

And coach Terry Bobie Agyekum hailed his young stars, saying: “This is a monumental achievement. The boys need to be recognised for their fantastic work and unbelievable abillity.

“There has been no egos and simply great teamwork. We will look to maintain such a record right until the end and want the National Cup, which we came ever so close to winning this season.”

Stratford School’s Junior Nyamalembe netted five times against Forest, with Jeffrey Njuguna, Joshua Junaid and Shayden Morris completing the rout.

Langdon pupil Paul Sagoe converted two fine through balls from Nyamalembe inside the first five minutes against Redbridge, who replied after a mix-up.

Captain Tony Shaw swapped passes with Nyamalembe to fire home a superb third, before Andrew Adjei saved a penalty.

Jerry Idowu produced two fantastic finishes, before Shayden Morris completed the scoring with another excellent goal.

Agyekum added: “This has been a fantastic team effort. Every player from my keeper to my striker produced and worked extremely hard.

“They have done exceptionally well to put their borough on the map and have given me one of the best birthday presents I could ask for, not only winning the double but defending our honours two years running.”
