Youngsters impress at London Area event at UEL
Stratford Judo Club had more to cheer at the London Area Development event at University of East London’s SportsDock.
The competition was for yellow belt and below juniors and Omar Lecointe added to his haul in the under-66kg event, winning two fights with throws and hold-downs to land gold.
Coach Paul Willis said: “Omar’s development is coming on superbly. He trains three times a week and there is no reason why he should not achieve the pre-cadets next year.”
Youcef Belkadi won two of his three fights in the under-34kg category, both by throws, which earned him a silver medal.
And there were bronze medals for Dominic Marcu, Gupree Sanga, Arthur Pushkarov, Luca Johnson, Samuel Pitchfurth and Edgar Boreiko on a successful day for the club.
Willis added: “I am very happy with the young red belts. My main concern was for them to focus on the coach during the competition and listen to our instructions.
“I wanted them to get used to taking advice from the coach at such events and they all listened carefully.”
