Two Newham Youngbloods Basketball Club’s boys’ teams won their National League matches at the weekend, but in vastly contrasting styles.

The under-16’s travelled to play Surrey Rams under the guidance of stand-in coach Stephen Onireti.

They dominated throughout despite a gallant display from the hosts who attempted to keep tabs on the visitors for the first two periods.

The Newham team led by 12 points at the end of the first period and by 24 at the finish of the second stage in an impressive all-round team display.

The home side fought hard to peg them back, but the Youngbloods proved to be far too hot to handle and pushed on to secure a comfortable 117-67 victory.

? Meanwhile the boys’ under-15s were forced to work hard for their narrow victory in their home match against the useful London Westside Rangers where they ultimately prevailed 80-75.

Youngblood’s quickly took the lead, only for the visitors to hit straight back to narrow the deficit.

The tense encounter continued as the visitors slowed the game down and proceeded to make the homeside work hard for their narrow victory.
