Copper Box set to rock to hoops event

London’s basketball hopefuls have the chance to showcase their skills as talent search event Midnight Madness returns to the Copper Box Arena on Friday (6.30-10.30pm).

The event looks for the best unknown ballers and provides them with life-changing opportunities to travel the world and compete for professional contracts, while bringing together the best in hoops, live PAs, DJs and dance acts.

This year’s winners will be travelling to the Caribbean to represent Great Britain in a top international invitational tournament and Essex Leopards Dave Ajumobi said: “Midnight Madness will be bigger and better this year. Everything from the level of competition to the calibre of Slam Dunkers has been taken up a notch so the night proves to be a show-stopper for sure.

“I always have to give thanks to Midnight Madness for how much they’ve helped and supported me and it’ll be interesting to see who emerges victorious and makes it on to the MM Travel Team this year. You don’t want to miss out!”

GB stars Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Ashley Hamilton, Myles Hesson, Orlan Jackman, Fahro Alihodzic have been joined by British Basketball League (BBL) stars Jamell Anderson (Leicester Riders), Conner Washington (Leicester Riders), Tayo Ogedengbe (Surrey Scorchers) and Olu Babalola (Manchester Giants) to name just a few of those on show in British basketball’s biggest summer hit.

As ever, there will also be a number of hungry young ballers featured on finals night to take ‘food’ from the pros and make a name for themselves on the big stage.

Midnight Madness also promises the ultimate show stopper for those who love the aeriel dramatics of the slam dunk.

Finals Night features an International Dunk Competition with the best dunkers on the planet flying into London to compete for the coveted World Slam Dunk crown.

Confirmed dunkers this year include Rafal ‘Lipek’ Lininski (Poland), Kristaps Dargais (Latvia), Dmitry ‘Smoove’ Krivenko (Ukraine), Justin ‘Jus Fly’ Darlington (Canada), Jordan ‘Spiderman’ Kilganon (Canada) and Jonathan Clarke (USA).

With the best line-up ever assembled for a dunk competition, the action will have everyone up and out of their seats and set to deliver something new and outrageous.

For players all over the UK, Midnight Madness is recognised as the tournament to prove your worth as the organisation has succeeded in helping over 250 players launch successful international careers in a sport that receives no funding.

Spectators will be treated to GB level competition, plus have the opportunity to witness the next up-and-coming talent on their way to stardom.

For those who want to witness the nation’s top athletes, super-human dunkers, special guest performances, plus the chance to win two tickets to the Caribbean, all while enjoying the music, dance and live DJs, see to book your tickets.
