London Lions saw their unbeaten start to the season ended by Sheffield Sharks in Yorkshire.
Both teams made an impressive shooting start with the Lions edging a high-scoring opening period, 27-25.
And the free-flowing offence continued in the second quarter, as the game was level at 50-50 heading into the break.
But by this time the Lions, already missing Kevin Moyo to a thigh injury, lost Jamal Williams to a calf strain and the home side put together a strong third quarter which proved pivotal as Lions stuttered.
Unable to get to shooters in time, Lions were not helped by the fact the Sharks had their best shooting night in years, recording 69 per cent for two-point shots and 58 per cent for three-pointers.
Mike Tuck and Kyle Odister shared 44 points, while Zach Gachette added a vital contribution of 20 points.
Kai Williams hit a triple to put the Lions up 61-60 in the third, but the Sharks scored the final 14 points of the period capped by Colin Sing’s triple, as he made all three of his attempts including a ridiculous heave on the shot clock that hit nothing but net.
Sheffield extended their lead to 18 points and were not troubled in the final quarter as they eventually secured a 15-point triumph.
Zaire Taylor had 24 points and 10 assists for the Lions as their perfect record came to an end.
The Lions return home to the Copper Box on Wednesday November 2 when they host Surrey Scorchers. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.co.uk.
