London Lions enjoyed a superb win double in the British Basketball League at the weekend.
They comfortably defended their home court at the Copper Box Arena with an 86-70 win over Glasgow Rocks on Friday night.
And Lions followed that up with a hard-fought 75-70 win on the road at Plymouth on Sunday evening.
Justin Robinson and Demonte Flannigan led Lions in a fast start against the Rocks, as they built a 25-17 lead in the first quarter.
Will Hall and Brandon Peel played cameo roles during the second quarter, as Gareth Murray tried to keep the visitors in touch with a late 6-0 run making it 48-32 at half time.
Paul Guede produced four steals during a strong third quarter display as Lions continued to dominate on the glass to go 70-50 up.
And that margin was never under any serious threat as Lions finished with nine players on the scoresheet, led by Robinson’s 26-point haul.
Kieron Achara’s 14 points led the Rocks scoring.
Lions scorers: Robinson 26; Flannigan 18; Guede 11; Peel 9; Hall 8; Ikinhmwin 6; Isenbarger 4; Latinovic 2; Lanegger 2.
Sunday’s match in Devon saw Lions make another strong start as Robinson and Peel led the charge and Guede’s fine defensive work helped build a 25-18 lead.
Plymouth were held to just 17 per cent from the three-point line – a season low – as Lions moved through the gears to go into the half-time break with a 38-32 advantage and the visitors kept moving the ball well during the third quarter to stretch the gap to double digits.
Trailing 57-47 at the start of the final quarter, Raiders suddenly found some form at the free-throw line and also sank a three-point shot.
But coach Mariusz Karol then shuffled his line-up and Momcilo Latinovic sank a turnaround jump shot, before Robinson drove inside to seal victory and finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Peel added 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench for Lions, who moved to 5-3 for the season and now face a free weekend before returning to action with a trip to Bristol on Friday, November 17 (7.30pm tip-off).
Lions scorers: Robinson 20; Peel 13; Guede 10; Flannigan 8; Latinovic 7; Hall 7; Lanegger 7; Lockhart 3.
