St Angela’s Ursuline School under-14s girls were crowned champions at the National Basketball School finals for the fifth time last week.

The team of year eight and nine pupils from the school in Saint George’s Road are now Borough, East London, London, National and United Kingdom champions.

Having successfully advanced through the county and regional knockout competitions, St Angela’s (below) began their national campaign against Northampton.

Their opponents were unable to cope with the East Londoners’ tempo throughout however, as they stormed to an impressive 76-59 victory.

In the final there was no stopping them as St Angela’s beat Priestnall School from Manchester 68-50.

Brenda Kipewu contributed 27 points in the final, including several three-pointers, and was awarded the MVP, while there were useful scoring contributions from Camille Francis and Amber Byrne to help their side clinch the title.
