Club reveal captain for new season

London Lions fan favourite Joe Ikhinmwin has been made captain for the 2015/16 season, as he returns for the second year of a two-year contract with the club.

The 6ft 6in Ikhinmwin was acquired from the Newcastle Eagles in 2013 and has gone on to double his figures in the capital.

Playing multiple positions for the Lions, Ikhinmwin averaged just over eight points and four rebounds per game while shooting 46 per cent from the floor.

Before coming to Britain, Ikhinmwin spent four years at South Carolina State University in the United States where he averaged six points and three boards in his final two years before graduating in 2012.

Lions coach Nigel Lloyd said: “Joe will continue to thrive here and I believe his work ethic and approach to the game will inspire many English youngsters. He was my obvious choice to captain us going forward.”

Ikhinmwin will be playing his third season with the Copper Box-based Lions and added: “It’s a tremendous honour and privilege to be named captain of the Lions, I’ll do everything in my power to represent and uphold the responsibilities that come along with this title.

“I’m really excited about the direction the team is heading and can’t wait for the season to get underway.”

Player sponsorship is now available for Ikhinmwin on a first come, first served basis.

Lions fans can see the team in action at the first home game of the season on Friday September 25 when they take on Leeds Force at the Copper Box Arena on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Season tickets are also still available and give fans the opportunity to choose their own seat for the season as well as exclusive access to many activities involving the team.
