Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre to host event in June 2017

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) and England Hockey have confirmed the match schedule for the prestigious Hockey World League Semi-Final in London in June 2017.

The event will see the very best men’s teams do battle with those who have fought their way through from World League 2 and with a place in the prestigious World League Final and World Cup qualification on the line, the stakes do not get much higher for some of the leading teams in the game.

Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre has already hosted a number of world class international hockey events since 2015, becoming the place where hockey history happens.

Bobby Crutchley’s new-look England will blend experience and exciting rising stars and channel the home support as they take on some of the finest players in the game. Tickets begin at just £2.50 for children and £10 for adults.

Five other teams have been confirmed to compete in the event along with England, including Olympic champions and world number two Argentina, European champions Netherlands, Asian Champions Trophy holders and runners-up India and Pakistan, as well as the flair of Korea.

The final four teams will be confirmed next spring after a further round of qualifiers, taking the total number of competing nations up to 10.

The event starts on Thursday June 15, with England playing in the final match of the day at 8pm.

Sunday June 18 has already been dubbed “Super Sunday” as the first game of the day pairs Pakistan with India.

With 11 Olympic titles between them, this has historically been one of the fiercest rivalries in the game and it shows no sign of letting up.

India had the edge at the 2016 Asian Champions Trophy so Pakistan will be out for revenge, before England go head-to-head with Argentina.

*The weekends are already selling fast, with semi-final and final tickets as well as “Super Sunday” places being snapped up by eager hockey fans.
