Wapping Kidds under-10s took part in their first ever tournament on Sunday.

A squad of 11 went to the Essex Mini Hockey event and for many it was their first ever taste of competitive hockey after training over the past few months.

The Wapping youngsters recorded one win, one draw, a walkover win, and three defeats on the day to the delight of coaches Rachel Byrne and Ryan D’Souza.

“We are incredibly proud of our team,” they said.

“Everyone in the squad made a very positive contribution and the spirit was fantastic.

“Playing in a competitive tournament was a steep learning curve against more experienced opposition and some older children, but we adapted brilliantly and improved throughout the day.

“We were extremely pleased with the technical level of players, which will stand them in good stead as they learn more about tactics and grow physically. Most importantly, they had fun!”
