A round-up of the latest matches involving East London women’s hockey teams

East London Hockey Club’s ladies first team battled to the very end to secure their 2-1 win over Holcombe on Saturday.

East’s early pressure caused Holcombe all sorts of issues which eventually paid off with a textbook goal as Karen Allan slipped the ball to Carla Garces Quvedo on the P spot who slotted home.

East remained composed and dominant in the second half and doubled their lead with Allan’s straight strike from a short corner.

Holcombe made it a nervy finale though when netting with five minutes left on clock and East conceded three late penalty corners, however, the defence remained firm.

The second team won by the odd goal in a seven-goal thriller with joint player of the match Astrid Ainley and Kate Hendry both netting, along with Lucy Bohoslawec and Nicky Sevel.

Despite a quiet start, the thirds picked up a 2-0 win against Wapping fifths.

They slowly and steadily built up the pressure with Mara Waters on hand to convert a rather scrappy first goal East picked up the pace in the second half and made sure of the win when Catherine Weber found the net.

Meghan Joyce and Sarah Watts both scored doubles as the fourths won 5-1 over Thurrock’s second team, despite falling behind.

Joyce levelled matters, then turned provider for Watts to give East a 2-

1 lead at the break.

Joyce was back on the scoresheet with the third before Charlotte Butterfield added a fourth and Watts doubled her tally.

Evelyne Weber’s player of the match display proved in vain as the fifths lost out 2-1 to Old Southendian.

Fiona Isacsson levelled for East in the first half, but as things looked to be heading to a draw Old Southendian slotted home a late goal to take all three points and the sixths and sevenths lost out 3-0 and 4-1 to Southend and London Royals respectively, with Chloe Russell netting East’s only goal in the defeat.

But the eighths picked up an impressive 7-0 win over Braintree fourths with Debs White stealing the show with four goals, while Chilufya Nkole, Emilie Hobb and Dasha Popilina also netted.
