West Ham Women fell to a narrow 2-0 defeat to Chelsea Women as Ramona Bachmann scored a brace in the second-half at Rush Green Stadium.

The first chance of the match fell to the visitors as Erin Cuthbert tried her luck from distance, but her effort was deflected out for a corner, and nothing came of it.

They continued to dominate the early proceedings with a bundle of possession until the Hammers found their way into the clash in the 10th minute as Julia Simic made a great run down the left flank.

The German whipped a ball into the box but Chelsea defender Magdalena Eriksson was there to boot it out for a corner.

Simic continued to be the main danger for the hosts as she chipped a ball neatly over the top for Alisha Lehmann, who looked to cross it in for her striker partner, but failed to find Jane Ross in the box,

Right back down the other end the visitors broke up the pitch with Fran Kirby getting in behind the defence but goalkeeper Becky Spencer raced out to deny the striker in the 15th minute.

Nine minutes later Spencer had to pull off another vital save as she denied Hannah Blundell who floated into the box and drilled a shot on target.

In the 29th minute the Hammers defence blocked multiple attempts inside their own box to keep the score at 0-0 but eventually the visitors were awarded a free-kick.

Cuthbert stepped up and rifled the ball into the wall and it went out for a corner.

West Ham goalkeeper Spencer collected the inswinging corner as the Chelsea skipper Millie Bright tried to get her head on the end of the cross in the 31st minute.

Shortly after Kirby looked to break clear but captain Gilly Flaherty came to the rescue and got her foot in to stop the striker going one-on-one with Spencer again.

Four minutes before the half-time whistle Bethany England half-volleyed the ball on goal but her effort was tipped wide by Spencer to keep the score at 0-0 going into the break.

The hosts came out lively in the second-half and Alisha Lehmann whipped in a corner that found Flaherty but she headed it wide of the goal.

Cuthbert had another chance for Chelsea in the 53rd minute but she blasted a shot over the bar before Hammers substitute Leanne Kiernan went close down the other end after a scramble inside the box.

Goalkeeper Carly Telford tipped it wide for a corner and nothing come of it.

In the 62nd minute the Blues broke the deadlock as Bachmann slotted home her own rebound after originally dragging the ball across the box and firing a shot off the cross bar.

Emma Hayes’ Chelsea side then held firm as West Ham looked to grab one back but couldn’t generate any real chances and the nail was put in the coffin in the 85th minute when Bachmann grabbed her second of the match as she fired into the right side of the net.

West Ham looked to press in the dying stages but Chelsea were resolute to keep them out and come away with a 2-0 win.
