Hammers manager Slaven Bilic says losing Manuel Lanzini is a real blow
West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini is set to be on the sidelines for the next month after injuring himself playing for the Argentina Olympic team.
Manager Slaven Bilic confirmed the bad news about his knee injury and suggested he will not be back in contention until after the international break in September.
“Lanzini is a blow for us though he wasn’t going to play against Domzale anyway,” said the boss.
“He was with us for our pre-season tour in the United States and then stayed there to join up with Argentina, but he played against Colombia and got a kick on his knee, well more than a kick.
“It will be four or five weeks, so he will miss the first three games of the season.”
The way that Lanzini linked up with Dimitri Payet in the West Ham midfield last season was one of the great successes of the season. The pair in the same team allowed one or the other plenty of space to exploit.
His loss could be a huge blow for the Hammers’ chances this campaign.
