Our Hammers correspondent Tony Cottee says the team miss Mark Noble when he isn’t able to play

Sunday was a really bad result and losing 4-0 against any team is not good. We were outclassed by Liverpool in the second half and it was a really disappointing last home game of the season.

In a slight defence of the players, it is hard to raise yourself after such a high, which we had in the previous game against Spurs.

That was the match we knew we had to win to make sure we stayed up and then Sunday really was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show.

We all would have loved to see ‘Nobes’ play, but it was the right call for him to have his operation now with a look ahead to next season.

There is a tendency to single out the local boy when things aren’t going right and Ross Barkley is in a similar situation at Everton right now.

Fans get frustrated and they need a target and I don’t know if because ‘Nobes’ is a homegrown lad that he becomes an easy pick, but the stats speak for themselves.

West Ham haven’t won any of the last 12 league games he has missed, so it shows we are a weaker team without him. He doesn’t play well every week, nobody does, but he is very influential and the stats say it all I think.

In other news, Michail Antonio’s new contract is thoroughly deserved because he has been amazing in his first two years at the club.

We have to keep our best players and people will say why do we need to give him a new contract as he has two years left? But you have to pay the going rate these days and reward your players, otherwise they will go elsewhere.

Unfortunately in the past we haven’t done that and so we have lost players, but I am thrilled Antonio has signed a new contract because he will be a big player again for us next season.

With one more game left we need to try and finish as high as we can and it would be great to end with a win at Burnley.

It is important we mention the fans because they have been brilliant this season and a good two or three thousand will make the trip up to Turf Moor, even though there is nothing riding on the match.

I’d love to see us go and win on Sunday, but Burnley have been excellent at home this season, so I’d settle for a 1-1 draw and I think most fans would agree. The important thing for me is the players put in a performance for all the fans making the trip. COYI!
