Football tournament taking place tomorrow at 9am

The first ever Walking Football Tournament in East Ham takes place this weekend with various familiar teams involved.

People from the area are being asked to come and watch the competition to get inspired to try it themselves.

Men and women can both play in the activity aimed at people aged 50 and above.

The main benefits of the sport are that it tackles loneliness and inactivity amongst the ageing population.

It is also a good way of keeping active and making new friends.

Tomorrow (Saturday) at Flanders Field, Napier Road, the first ever Walking Football event takes place in East Ham.

It starts at 9am and is set to finish at 11am with four teams taking part.

Orient FC, East Ham Active, East Ham Neighbourhood and Chelmsford City FC Walking Football Team are the four sides involved in the event.

Walking football was devised in 2011 by the Chesterfield FC Community Trust and has grown rapidly since.

If anybody is interested in watching or taking part in walking football, they can contact East Ham Active on 020 8586 7070.
