Jeffrey Cobblah’s stoppage-time strike saw Tons open the new season with a derby win over Tower Hamlets at the Old Spotted Dog ground.

Both sides passed the ball around well on a hot day, with the hosts having chances to break the deadlock in a tight contest.

Tackles began to fly in during the second half, with Tons having a shot cleared off the line, as Hamlets boss AJ Ashanike was sent to the stands by the referee.

And with time running out, Cobblah found the net with a left-footed finish into the top corner after Jay Morris had flicked the ball into the box to earn Jon Fowell’s men the three points.

Clapton welcome Ilford on Tuesday for their next fixture, while Hamlets head to Leyton Athletic on Wednesday.

Tons will then turn their attention to the FA Cup the following Saturday (August 11) with an extra preliminary round tie at Woodbridge Town, while Hamlets are away at Stanway Rovers on Sunday August 12.

Tower Hamlets: Stansbury, Queeley, Odedoyin, Furtado, Watson-Owen, Thomas, Mtyanda, Mata, Bamidele, Weston, Nelson. Subs: Casey, Capleton, Sinclair, Amoah, Ross.
