Manor test for Clapton

PUBLISHED: 12:35 19 January 2012

Clapton will be hoping to banish the memories of last weekend’s 4-1 Essex Senior League defeat at Takeley when they host league leaders Southend Manor this Saturday, writes Colin Munford.

Wilf Thomas’ side haven’t won since before the two-week festive break and were 3-0 down inside 35 minutes.

Chris Groves broke the deadlock with only five minutes on the clock, while Scott Forbes netted a first-half brace to extend their lead.

The Tons threatened a comeback when Christian Mkwangazi pulled one back five minutes before half time.

But Forbes completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after 65 minutes to secure the three points for the Station Road side.

After this weekend’s fixture, the Old Spotted Dog side are without a game until February 4, when they make the trip to fourth-placed Enfield 1893.
