Five-star under-13 claim MJA Trophy

London APSA under-13s ended the year on a high as they beat Juva Youth to lift the MJA Trophy at the Old Spotted Dog ground.

APSA broke the deadlock when Tanbir Ahmed’s cross was met by Faez Kashem, who headed home, and it was 2-0 soon after when they cleared a Juva corner and countered, with a quick succession of passes setting up Akram Miah to fire in a powerful left-footed shot.

Juva halved the deficit on the stroke of half time, but APSA showed hunger and determination after the restart and more good passing saw Shafiiq Shipkoylee play a sweet ball into the box for Miah to make it 3-1.

Ahmed and Kashem added further goals as APSA ran out 5-2 winners to the delight of manager Hafiz Ahmed, who said: “It was a great game and we were 5-2 winners on the night, but it was a really tough game, especially when it came to breaking down Juva’s back four.

“We switched to 4-4-2 in the second half and I think that was the game changer as we attacked every time we got the ball.

“Switching Shafiiq from right-back to right wing paid off as he was working hard to feed balls into our strikers. It was a man of the match performance from him.”
