Orient striker has Shrewsbury in his sights
Leyton Orient’s Kevin Lisbie believes his side will have to play a “bit better” if they are to beat Shrewsbury tomorrow (Saturday).
The Jamaican international netted a last-minute winner against Coventry in the first round of the Capital One Cup in midweek, before O’s were handed a home tie with Hull.
Orient had thrashed Carlisle 5-1 in their opening Sky Bet League One fixture but the 34-year-old Lisbie is hopeful his team do not become complacent.
“I think we’re going to have to go out and be a bit better than we were (against Coventry) to beat Shrewsbury,” he said.
“In this league it’s all hard. I’m not a gambling man but I wouldn’t put a fiver on any team in this division.”
Orient have scored eight goals in their opening two fixtures with Lisbie grabbing three of them.
Despite his early season form Lisbie insists it is about the team playing well together rather than one star individual.
“It’s more the team than me. It’s good for me to get the goals and Coxy (Dean Cox) is doing well,” he added.
“(David) Mooney’s got goals as well and it’s important everyone chips in. I think we’ve got a good squad this year.”
The veteran has also been pleased with the input of young winger Moses Odubajo, who supplied the cross for Lisbie’s winning goal against Coventry.
“He (Odubajo) is unbelievable. For me he was man of the match (versus Coventry). Every time he got the ball he looked dangerous. I think he’s grown as a player.”
With Lisbie and Co banging in the goals up front and taking the limelight, it’s easy to forget about the defence.
But the former Charlton man says his side have one of the best backlines in the league.
“Defensively we are solid. I think we are one of the better teams in the league,” he said.
“For me Jamie (Jones) is the best ‘keeper in this division. I think as the season goes on we’ll keep a lot of clean sheets and hopefully score a lot of goals.”
