Ben Short's team edge six-goal thriller despite late scare to remain on course to finish season as champions

JK Silvertown kept alive their hopes of winning the Essex Sunday Combination Division Two title with a 4-2 success at Cranham Athletic after Chris Wright scored four times.

The previous two meetings had resulted in Athletic coming out on top, but that wasn’t the case this time around.

Wright opened the scoring for Silvertown after 25 minutes following smart play by Danny Lock.

It remained 1-0 until half time despite both sides creating numerous opportunities after the opener.

Mohamed Aboucharka was introduced for the visitors at the break and soon the away side doubled their lead.

Adem Hassan fired a free kick from near the halfway line towards goal and Wright flicked into the net.

Cranham didn’t give up despite the two-goal disadvantage and carried on pushing for a way back into the game.

Silvertown virtually put the match to bed, however, when Wright chased down a long ball and found the net from a tight angle.

The hosts ensured it would be a nervy finale with two goals in quick succession to make it 3-2.

But Wright, fittingly, had the final say as he grabbed his fourth of the match to wrap up the points.

JK Silvertown squad: Muscat, R.Wright, Ashby, Jenkins, Hassan, Robson, Lock, Rawlinson, Stevens, Short, C.Wright, Ferreira, Batterbee, Mann, Aboucharka, Loureir.
