Essex Senior League: Burnham Ramblers 1 Clapton 3

Clapton returned to second place in the Essex Senior League with a 3-1 win away to struggling Burnham Ramblers.

At Leslie Fields, Tons had to do without influential forward Jay Knight, who had left earlier in the week to join Ryman North outfit Tilbury.

It prove little bother for the Old Spotted Dog club as they took the lead in the 28th minute through defender Eamon Payne.

Jon Fowell’s men were two goals to good on the stroke of half time when Raphael Duyile found the back of the net.

Looking on course for a comfortable win, Clapton were dealt a blow when Ramblers pulled a goal back late on to make it 2-1.

However, with a minute remaining, Ryan Reed was on target to wrap up the success for Tons.

Victory lifts the Old Spotted Dog back above FC Romania and into second, with Clapton next in action at home to West Essex this weekend.

Clapton: Mokwa, Ashman, Cook, Duyile, Ebongo, Jairette, Payne, Reed, Sardinha, Spencer, Vigo

Subs: Joseph, Morris

Attendance: 56
