Essex Senior League: Clapton look to finish 2017 with West Essex win

The Tons will be in the top-six heading into the New Year if they can achieve a positive result on Saturday

Clapton make the short trip to West Essex this Saturday eager to end the year on a high note.

The Tons travel down the A13 to Mayesbrook Park for their final Essex Senior League match of 2017.

Last Saturday, Jon Fowell’s side were set to entertain high-flying Takeley, but the Old Spotted Dog pitch was deemed unplayable.

It means Clapton are yet to win in December having drawn 3-3 at Southend Manor on December 9 and lost 3-1 in the London Senior Cup at Met Police on December 6.

The Tons last victory was on November 28 when they edged a five-goal thriller at home to Barkingside, who are managed by former boss Michael Walther.

Fowell will hope for some early Christmas cheer this weekend when Clapton take on a West Essex side who have impressed this season.

Tons are sixth in the table and one place and two points better off than Saturday’s opponents and therefore only a positive result will ensure they finish 2017 in the top-six.
