Clapton ended their season on a winning note at the Old Spotted Dog on Saturday.
Having lost their previous two matches against Sporting Bengal and Great Wakering, the Tons took the lead eight minutes before the break when a cross from the left found Nathan Cook to tap home.
Hullbridge hit back midway through the second half when Jimmy Cox was fouled in the box and picked himself up to fire home from the spot and it looked like ending all square as the match entered stoppage time.
But Tons produced a late twist when Ryan Reed’s cross from the right found Jeffrey Cobblah stretching to beat Jamie Merralls for a late winner.
Victory leaves Clapton in sixth place, but West Essex can climb above them in the final table if they beat Hackney Wick in their last match of the seasoon on Tuesday.
Cobblah tweeted: “Glad to end the season on a high and get the important win today, also a good feeling to score the winner & also my 21st goal of the season. Lovely cross from @RyanReed93.”
Clapton: Seal, Vigo, Wilson, Cook, Shepard, Loblack, Reed, Ashman, Lyndon, Morris, Harris. Subs: Kayembe, Isoka, Cobblah, Longe, Ebengo.
