Ashman penalty put Tons in front

A county disciplinary hearing will be held into Clapton’s abandoned Essex Senior League fixture at Sawbridgeworth.

After a largely forgettable first half in Hertfordshire, Jon Fowell’s Tons looked on course for a 10th away win in 11 league outings thanks to Johnny Ashman’s 75th-minute penalty at Crofters End.

But the match referee abandoned the contest in stoppage time following an alleged altercation between a home player and visiting supporter.

Until the outcome of the match is determined by the county, it means Tons are in third place, 13 points behind leaders Barking, who can clinch the title with a win next weekend when Clapton’s next fixture sees them take on bottom club Haringey & Waltham at Newham’s Terrence McMillan Stadium.

Clapton: Olajide, Vigo, Awoderu, Egbejale, Ebengo, Sardinha, Reed, Mugoma, Nilesen, Joseph, Ashman. Subs: Morris, Duyile, Bouho, Dene, Spencer.

*London Bari were without a fixture this weekend and must wait until April 8 when they make the short trip across east London to take on Tower Hamlets at Mile End Stadium.
