Clapton manager Jonny Fowell is expecting a tough test when they take on promotion hopefuls Walthamstow.

The Tons will welcome Ryan Maxwell’s side to the Old Spotted Dog this evening as they look to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat to Tower Hamlets on the weekend.

“Walthamstow is going to be a very difficult game because they’ve got some very good players down there.

“They’ve got a good budget and some of the players they’ve brought in are top players.”

Fowell revealed he tried to sign Dwade James from Leyton Athletic but the attacker opted to join their opponents.

But he feels he has just as much talent in his squad as Stow do – despite their big budget.

“We tried to sign Dwade James and a few others who they’ve brought in.

“We’ve got some good players as well, we’ve got Jacob Kromann, who for me is one of the best strikers in the league, and we’ve got Andy Greenslade and Jason Ajoodha who are two fantastic midfield players.

“We will be making changes as I’ve got to try something different.”

He is also insistent that there is no reason to panic as it’s still early days in the Essex Senior League.

“It’s still early in the season and everyone is beating everyone.

“Be wary of a team that has just been beaten as now I’m going to show my nasty side and get rid of players if they don’t perform.”
