The Tons have lost the likes of Steven Sardinha, Ryan Reed and Jeffrey Cobblah to Basildon United this week – after the news broke that the Bees chairman Lee Connor was looking to slash the budget.

They’ve also moved to recruit the likes of former Clapton players Emmanuel Olajide and Fahad Nyanja.

While, they’ve also made a seven day transfer request for Jonny Ashman from Witham Town, who was with Clapton during the 2016/17 season under Fowell.

It is also expected that left-back Tayo Adoweru and midfielder Andy Greenslade will depart the club for the Bees in the coming weeks.

“I did say to the boys the other night, the last one out turns the lights off,” Fowell joked.

“But I’m so proud of the boys getting that opportunity to play higher as they can definitely play at a higher level.

“They just need a manager to believe in them, give them the confidence, and give them a rollicking when they’re doing things they shouldn’t be.

“They’re all good boys, they want to learn, and they’re not money motivated which is great for Basildon as they’re cutting their budget back.”

Fowell revealed Connor called him up about bringing in a number of his players and he was happy to let them move up to a higher league.

“He expected an exodus of players to be leaving, he wasn’t sure who was going and who wasn’t, but we had a good chat and he said I’d like to sign some of your boys.

“I said sure who do you want, and he just run off some names, I’m more than happy for Steve and Ryan to go there.

“The other one was Jeff and I said he can go as well, they’ve got my blessing, I don’t stop players progressing everyone knows that.”

“They’ve put in a seven day transfer request for Johnny Ashman as well.

“I think they’re going to have about seven boys from Clapton, so they’ll be ClapBas,” he chuckled
