Clapton fell to a 4-3 defeat to Essex Senior League high-flyers West Essex at the Old Spotted Dog.
A brace from Steven Sardinha and a goal from Jeffrey Cobblah wasn’t enough for the Tons to get anything out of the match last night.
Jonny Fowell’s remain 12th in the league despite suffering yet another defeat while the visitors move up to first place.
It was West Essex who got off to a bright start, but it wasn’t until the 41st minute when they broke the deadlock as Michael Mignot slotted home to make it 1-0.
Three minutes later Clapton pulled it back to 1-1 as Sardinha fired home a penalty a minute before half-time.
The second-half got off to a quick start with Mignot netting his second from the restart to make it 2-1, but the lead didn’t last long as a minute later Cobblah clawed the Tons back into by making it 2-2 on his return from injury.
The visitors once again pulled in front with Joseph Lefley bending an effort into the bottom corner in the 55th minute.
Midfielder Sardinha got another chance from the spot in the 67th minute and made no mistake to convert his second and make the score 3-3.
West Essex got the last laugh though as Mignot netted his hat-trick as he lashed a shot into the roof of the net after his run was picked out by Lefley in the 72nd minute.
