Youngster now hopes to go for more medal success at English Youth Championships next month

Newham Swords’ Khalam Contractor, nine, set a personal best at the weekend when taking a silver medal at the British Under-10 Championships.

Rising star Contractor remained undefeated throughout the day, before losing in the final by a score of 10-7.

“This is a great result for Khalam and one place better than last year when he took bronze”, said Swords head coach Pierre Harper.

“Khalam is an exceptionally talented young man who has a great future ahead of him”, added Swords club manager Linda Strachan.

Contractor will now prepare for the forthcoming English Youth Championships, taking place next month.

The youngster will bid to go one further than his silver medal at the British Championships by taking gold at the Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield in June.

And if Contractor does, it will only add to his growing reputation as one of the best young fencing in the east London area.
