East London’s men and women had to draw on the positives from their latest East League matches.
The men fell behind against Dereham after being reduced to 10 men, but were back on terms when Harry Finster deflected home from a short corner routine.
John Lyness caused trouble for Dereham throughout and went close to putting East in front before half time.
And Mark Prince came on for injured Gurmukh Panesar in the second half to keep the Dereham dangerman quiet as it ended all square at 1-1, with Thomas Sword seeing a shot well saved.
The women shared the spoils with their Bishop’s Stortford rivals as Karen Allen found the net and Ailish Hendry was named player of the match.
Robert Corfe, James Bushby and Alex Kirton netted as the men’s thirds beat Maldon 3-1, while Marc Bull and Nick Soper struck as the fifths came from behind to beat Old Southendian thirds 2-1.
Matt Freeman bagged a brace as the sevenths saw off Maldon seconds 4-0, with Lewis Clayton and Wesley Manta also on target, but the seconds (Bishop’s Stortford 2-1), fourths (Old Southendian seconds 4-1), sixths (Old Loughtd Academy 3-1), eights (Southendians fourths 1-0) and nines (Old Loughts Willows 3-0) all lost.
The women’s thirds beat Crostyx seconds 1-0, while the fifths saw off Upminster thirds 2-1 thanks to goals from Fiona Isaccson and Katrina Wylie.
Pippa Lindsay and Hannah McDermid struck as the sixth team beat their Chelmsford counterparts 2-0, while the sevenths romped to a 13-0 victory over Redbridge.
Emilie O’Brien led the way with a five-goal haul, as Debs White, Danae Lopez and Melody Espada netted doubles.
Amy Ballard and Fran Jarvis completed the tally to make it unlucky 13 for their rivals.
The eights drew 1-1 with Upminster sixths, as Sarah Collister found the net, but the seconds (Letchworth 6-2), fourths (Maldon 2-1) and nines (Witham thirds 3-2) all lost, despite goals from Rosie Wood (2), Charlotte Butterfield and newcomer Hannah Conway (2) respectively.
