The latest boxing news from Newham

Down at Peacock Gym, Newham’s famous fight factory, they are convinced that Daniel Dubois is developing into a real heavyweight hope and he aims to add more evidence on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old puncher, trained by gym boss Martin Bowers, looks for his tenth pro victory when he faces his toughest opponent to date - Romanian Razvan Cojanu at Brentwood.

Based in California, Cojanu has won 16 of 20 bouts and just two fights ago made a bold world title challenge, losing on points to then WBO king Joseph Parker.

Dubois will be shorter than his rival, for the 31-year-old at over 6’7” will be nearly three inches above him, but the Peacock gym fighter is confident he will cut his foe down to size.

“I am looking to end the year with a bang,” says the prospect, who has halted all but one of his nine victims inside the distance.

Another fighter guided by Bowers, cruiserweight James Branch looks for his third pro victory on the Frank Warren promotion when he faces Lithuanian Remi Ziausys.

Two more unbeaten prospects in Hamzah Sheeraz and Harvey Horn are named on the show, which also features a WBO European title fight for Sunny Edwards and will be screened by BT Sport.

Meanwhile Danny Dignum and Rod Douglas Jr. are named on Friday’s Lee Eaton promotion at York Hall which features Akeem Ennis Brown and Louis Greene in title fight action.
