Prince Atender is proving to be a karate knockout as he took a gold medal in the UK Championships in Sheffield.

The 11-year-old head boy of St Joachim’s School in Custom House also won a bronze medal in the kumite category to make it a double celebration.

Prince, who lives in Custom House, now has the opportunity to represent the UK at the World Championships in the USA next year.

Headteacher at St Joachim’s, James Allen, said: “Prince (above) is a credit to our school.

“He is only small for his age and I was told that many of his competitors towered above him, but Prince didn’t let that put him off.

“His skills and techniques wowed the judges which secured him two medals in this national competition. We are all really proud of him at St Joachim’s. It is a wonderful accomplishment.”
