Pupils travel to Chelmsford to watch Ravi Bopara’s testimonial

A group of 12 Rokeby students travelled to the Essex Cricket Ground recently to witness Ravi Bopara’s All-Star match.

The youngsters had the opportunity to meet some of the stars of the game, such as the likes of Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi and current England Test captain Alistair Cook.

They also had the opportunity to take part in a Kwik Cricket match on the pitch and the day out left its mark on both students and pupils alike.

“Getting to go to the Essex ground for the first time, meeting the players, getting to play on the actual pitch and the opportunity to play on the pitch was amazing. Watching the match live at the stadium was the best bit,” said year eight pupil Malav Patel.

Classmate Alan Philip added: “I enjoyed watching the match and taking photos, playing on the pitch, seeing a lot of players like Ravi Bopara and Shahid Afridi. The weather was awesome and contributed to the great atmosphere at the ground. I was in the photo with Ravi Bopara which was amazing.”

Rokeby’s key stage four co-ordinator, Natalie Bailey-Clouston, commented that she was “very proud with the way the boys conducted themselves at the event”.
