Newham maintained their slender lead at the top of the Essex County League Premier Division table with a comfortable derby win over Bow Green at Flanders Field.

The match was reduced to 43 overs as the pitch dried out after heavy overnight rain and the hosts chose to bat after winning the toss.

Openers Amit Midha (21) and Muhammad Farooq (34) got Newham off to a solid start, with Adnan Ashraf (50) and Wasim Majeed (55) going on to hit half-centuries.

Mujakkir Hussain fell four runs short of his own fifty, while Aamir Shaukat made 45 as Newham amassed a challenging 277-6.

Renford Coulson (2-43) was the pick of the Bow Green bowling, but their top-order batsmen were shot out by Mudassar Aziz, who finished with 6-28 in nine overs.

Arjuan Rana (2-29), Shaukat and Midha also had success as Newham dismissed Green for 137 in 28 overs to remain one point clear of title rivals Ford with just two matches remaining.

Newham visit Tennyson this weekend, as Ford travel to Bow Green.
