Newham got the better of local rivals Bow Green in their Essex County League Premier Division derby.

Captain Sajjad Mirza chose to bat first and Rohan Pawar, called up from the seconds, top scored with 42 from 32 balls as they made 200-8 from 45 overs.

Amit Midha, Mujakkir Hussain (both 24) and Mirza (23) also made starts for the visitors, who began well with the ball in Green’s reply.

Ian Burchell hit 59 for the home side, including nine fours, but Muhammad Farooq (4-36) shone with the ball as Newham sealed a 14-run win.

The seconds saw Grays pile up 351-4, with Jahid Ali hitting 157, and collapsed to 97 all out in reply, as Ghayyur Sajjad (5-27) did damage with the ball. And the thirds lost to Grays seconds, despite an early wicket for Junaid Ilyas (4-45) and good opening spell from Nishant Mittal.

Hasnain Naeem took two important catches, while Michael Garvey nabbed 3-45 as Grays were all out for 177.

But Newham slipped to 34-3 and, despite an attacking 22 from 12 balls by Robin Mondal, they collapsed to 77-9 before Anshul Sharma and Garvey gained an extra batting point in a 63-run loss.

Newham lost by 12 runs to London CC on Sunday and the seconds went down by 74 runs against West Essex, despite the efforts of Muhammad Attiq ur Rehman (4-28) and Mittal (33).
